. B A C K G R O U N D .

History: Born and raised in his Deep Desert clan, Nivi has little knowledge of the Walker world. From a very early age, he showed great promise as a hunter and was trained as such. As a hunter, little focus was put into his education beyond basic clan information and background, as well as reading and writing. Despite that, Nivi proved to be an excellent strategist and was given his own team to lead in a raid at the young age of fifteen. It wasn't long before he was well-renowned as a champion hunter for his skills and sand magic not only among his own clan, but also among many Scaler and Arawnite clans in that area of the Deep Desert. Among his family and closer friends, he was also known for his extreme affinity for sweets, as he would always be the first to rummage through the spoils of a raid for pastries and soft candies, hording them for himself--mostly, anyway. He was a nice lizard, after all, and he did consent to share a little bit with some people.

When he grew older, Nivi was mated to Kimimela, the clan leader's daughter. As a close friend of the leader's eldest son, Elua, Nivi stayed well within the clan's inner circle. When Scaler hunters plagued their clan, Nivi helped organize counterstrikes and recommended new fallback nests be built deeper in the ground as a shelter against the Walkers and a haven for children and those who were wounded when the hunters and soldiers had to fight.

During one such attack, Kimimela and Aucaman, Nivi's second son, were captured and carted away by Scaler hunters. Unable to simply stand back while his mate and child might possibly still live, Nivi informed Elua, by now the clan leader, that he would hunt down his family and bring them back, and that he would make those who took them pay with their lives. In his place he left Shiloh, his eldest son whom he had trained personally as a hunter and a strategist. As the boy had already proved himself to be the true son of Aponivi in raids and fights against the Walkers, Nivi felt confident leaving the safety of the clan in his hands while he embarked on his journey.

Personality: Nivi is by nature very kind and compassionate. He does his best to understand what those around him are thinking and feeling and works to accommodate their needs. He's extremely affectionate with his friends, often rubbing up against them, curling up with them, and simply touching them whenever they get too close. Loyal to a fault, he would give his life for his friends in a heartbeat and goes to great lengths to protect them. While he can become a ruthless killer when on hunting trips with his clan, he hates how Shades and Walkers act like he and his people are savage monsters even when he tries being friendly. Though in fact quite intelligent among his own people, he knows very little of Shade and Walker society, and thus often comes off very naive around them.

Appearance: Darkly tanned from spending so much of his life under the sun, Nivi's skin has a coarse, leathery texture to it--what's not covered with scales, anyway. Patches of skin along his limbs, back, stomach and neck are golden-green with scales. The small of his back extends into a long lizard tail used for balance and coordination as well as a weapon when the occasion arises during hunting trips. His tongue is thin and forked, and he has a habit of flicking it a lot when nervous or excited, which tends to creep out a lot of Walkers and Shades. The pupils of his eyes are narrow vertical slits, another creepy feature that makes other species uneasy. His fingers and toes are tipped with sharp claws that would snag easily on fabric like bedsheets and clothes, and his canine teeth are sharp and pointed for tearing into flesh, which makes for a rather disturbing smile.

Additional notes: In Nivi's culture, sex is viewed as a means of reproducing and/or as a way to show very personal affection. It's not thought of as a lustful thing and is almost completely instinctual. There is little-to-no distinction between heterosexuality and homosexuality.
